The short answer to this question is a resounding no. While Seattle does receive a decent amount of precipitation, it does not always rain in Seattle. In fact, the Olympic Mountains tend to shield Seattle from most of the Pacific rainstorms. However, the mountains do not protect Seattle from the constant clouds that move through the region. This anomaly adds to the perception that Seattle is constantly bombarded with daily rainfall. Another factor of Seattle’s wet appearance involves the amount of winter precipitation the iconic city is forced to endure. Is this new to you? Catch up here Seattle does receive fairly large amounts of winter precipitation every year; this is another effect of the Olympic Mountains. With that being said, Seattle also experiences downpours from time to time. This is partly due to the subtropical environment of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. However, Seattle receives less annual rainfall than some other major cities. For example, cities such as New York, Miami, and even Atlanta receive more rainfall than Seattle each year. In spite of the facts to the contrary, Seattle still maintains a certain reputation. However the truth remains Seattle, despite cloudy days, is one the most vibrant and colorful cities in the country.
